Mr. Ronald Odero is a public health and laboratory systems specialist, diagnostic scientist, and research and innovation strategist with over 13 years of experience in infectious disease diagnostics, laboratory systems strengthening, public health research, and health technology development. He serves as Technical Advisor for Laboratory Systems under the Sustainable Laboratory Quality Systems (SLQS) programme at AMREF Health Africa, Kenya, collaborating with the Ministry of Health, KEMRI, CDC, US Government-supported programmes, the Global Fund, FIND, and other research and development partners. His expertise spans tuberculosis, HIV and antimicrobial resistance diagnostics, laboratory quality management, diagnostic network optimization, specimen referral systems, digital health, programme management, and workforce development. He contributes to national laboratory initiatives, including the Integrated Specimen Referral System (ISRS), and provides technical support to the KEMRI TB Laboratory in Kisumu, strengthening quality assurance, culture and drug susceptibility testing, drug-resistant TB surveillance, and diagnostic service delivery. Ronald is passionate about translating research into practical, locally relevant innovations. As Principal Investigator of the BioPREVAIL-supported SL-BioLock Smart Biomedical Waste Bin Project, he has advanced an IoT-enabled biomedical waste security solution, with seven functional minimum viable product systems developed and validated and 88 healthcare workers trained. The innovation is being positioned for an ASLM conference feature in December 2026, subject to confirmation. He also contributes as a consultant and co-investigator to AI-assisted tuberculosis microscopy research and advances concepts in laboratory biosecurity, multimodal diagnostic intelligence, and sustainable health technologies.His research contributions include peer-reviewed publications.
